Our Master Bedroom & Bath

2/24/2017

Here's another room we've tackled what I call "my-photography-winter-sabatical". Our master bedroom and bath is over our garage so it's not lacking in space. But that was the problem with the bathroom.. it was a big space with not a lot of character. Welp, I was out to fix that! I am a bit addicted to board and batton and it is showing up all over our home. And I'm not done. =) It is seriously THE easiest and cheapest way you can add custom looks to your home. And I think it just makes things look tailored but super homey.

Here is a "before" image of our master bath.

And a picture of the other wall...

And this is my saint of a hubby that basically builds me just about anything I'd like. Because a) he's Chuch Norris and can't sit still and always needs to be doing something and b) he thoroughly believes and practices the phrase "happy wife happy life".

And while he works the youngest girlfriends see the need to sit on the middle girlfriend as she locks her in a clothes basket.

Fast forward 2 weeks and A LOT of painting and this is the result!
Picture
The hubs left me a note that morning on my mirror and I wasn't ready to wipe it off. =)
Picture
I haven't added any more decorations to the walls yet but that's coming. I decided to blog before I was 100% done with the bathroom. And I don't know what I want to put on the walls yet!
Picture
So that is that! Love the way it turned out and I feel like it makes the space seem more quaint and not so vast and cold.

I'll show you the rest of our master space as well. I forgot to take a picture of what the before looked like.. just imagine a big wall with an ugly dresser and a TV on top of it. That is what this wall looked like before we added a fireplace and built-ins!

And our 6lb puppy, Coach, wanted to make his blog debut.
Picture
Darin also made a head-board and foot-board for our bed this winter.
Picture
I've been collecting old mirrors for this wall. Most of these mirrors didn't come white but that's nothing a can of white spray paint can't fix. And I didn't pay over $8 for any of these.. I found them at a consignment store, Goodwill and a garage sale.

And there you have it! Our master bedroom space!

Joya's Room

When we moved into our new home that high school boys built, I was determined to have a new home but not a cookie-cutter new home look. I wanted build-ins, character and unique touches around every corner. And when I walked into two out of our three daughter's rooms I was all, "Oops! These rooms didn't look so dinky as they are on our house plans!"
So I then began a quest to figure out how we could get build-ins, character and unique touches in these tiny rooms that also helped with floor space.
Joya's room was first up.. first of all, the girl wanted her room to be rainbows. Like wanted a big rainbow to be painted upon the wall.  I did my best with using rainbow colors and that seemed to be enough for my opinionated at-the-time 6 year old. Once I figured out a rainbow decor I did my research online (ehhemPINTERESTehhem) and found some cute day-bedish looking build-ins.

I drew up some plans for the hubs, he built it and painted my little tale off.

THIS is the result!
Picture
To help with floor space I knew I didn't want a dresser in her room. Adding them under her bed and under each shelving unit made that possible!

My attempt at adding some rainbow colored touches...

A broken mirror with a cool frame is how I got this look. Popped that mirror right out, sprayed the frame and stuck a cute floral accent in it.
Picture
The white frames are totally old cabinet doors we purchased for $2 at The Habitat for Humanity Restore with the middles taken out.

And there you have it! Our 7 year old, middle girlfriends room. I've been busy dreaming, drawing and painting  up many of our spaces during this photography-business-sabbatical so I'll be showing more of what we've created in future posts! Stay tuned!

Mud Room Reveal

yet another room (nearly) finished in the new casa!
basically i was beyond ready to have this space complete. i am a big supporter of not having any papers on the refrigerator. all my girls' school papers and sports schedules were hanging from the frig and it was driving me batty. when we dreamed of this space i knew i wanted it to be crazy functional and a spot where things could be hidden in a tidy-like manor. so this is what i came up with...

the mud room tour, folks!

these two images are what you see when you look from the dinning room into the hallway to the garage door. the double doors on the right are my pantry (and you couldn't pay me money to open them and show you right now... they are also on the "find calm out of chaos" list as well.

my hubs made me the awesome arrows and i got the frame at goodwill for $1 and the "hello" chipboard from america's greatest store, hobby lobby for $2. The metal hanging basket is an Ikea find.

originally purchased the metal Ikea wonderfulness to be on our kitchen back-splash but i love it here more!
Picture
below is the wall across from our coat/shoe cubbies. the command board is a big board that my hubby routed lines in to mimic the look of shiplap. he then framed it with trim we purchased at the Habitat for Humanity Restore for $1/8ft piece.

the medium sized clothes pins are also from the most fabulous store on earth, hobby lobby.

Picture
here's the view from the garage door looking in. every family member has their own coat/backback hook and drawer for their shoes, amen.

the door at the end of the cubbies goes out to our backyard. we also have a sliding glass door off of our dining room but figured it would be nice to have another door into our mud room. i've been happy it's been there!

Picture
and you may be thinking, "man her mud room is mudless and clean!"
that's probably because I just cleaned it because i was blogging it today. this place is usually filled with mud.. hence the name mud room. =)
Picture
my hubby is not a fan of the "bless this house" circle sign.. but I loved it. =) it's a bit of updated country and it's colorful so it's a win in my book.

-and there you have it! another room (basically) complete. i'm trying not to decorate this house too quickly because I LOVE the process of making it look homey and for it to feel like "us". =)
